Planta at Krog Street Market Review

September 7, 2023/Micaela Thomas

Hey, beautiful people! If you've been following my adventures, you know that I'm always on the hunt for new culinary delights. Recently, I had the chance to explore Atlanta's freshest foodie hotspot – Planta, tucked away in the bustling Krog Street Market. Planta opened its doors on June 30th, and the buzz around this place is nothing short of remarkable. My bestie, Justin and I decided to dive headfirst into this epicurean adventure for brunch last Sunday, and boy, were we in for a treat.

Now, let me preface this by saying that Justin and I are card-carrying carnivores. So, the fact that we left Planta with smiles on our faces is a testament to the restaurant's culinary prowess. We walked in with open minds, ready to explore every inch of the menu and indulge in all the deliciousness it had to offer.

To kick things off, we decided to keep it alcohol-free and started with some mocktails. I went for the Spicy Na-Rita, a zesty twist on a classic margarita that had my taste buds doing a happy dance. Justin, on the other hand, opted for the Cucumber Mule, which I can confirm was a refreshing and delightful choice.

For our culinary voyage, we started with Planta's unique take on sushi. Our curiosity led us to the Spicy Tuna Roll, crafted with Ahi Watermelon. Let me tell you, if I hadn't known better, I'd have sworn I was enjoying a traditional Spicy Tuna Roll. It was that good – a solid 10/10.

Our adventurous spirits led us to the Bang Bang Broccoli next, served with a tantalizing blend of sweet chili and peanut sauce. I'll admit I had reservations about the peanut sauce, but when paired with the sweet chili, it was an unexpectedly perfect match. Bang Bang Broccoli earned another solid 10/10.

The Bao Slider, however, didn't quite hit the same high notes for us. While it had its merits, the hoisin sauce had a tad too much sweetness for my liking. I'd rate it a respectable 6/10.

We were a bit disappointed when we learned that the 1000 Layer Crispy Potatoes had sold out for the day, but that's a clear sign of their popularity, I suppose. Undeterred, Justin and I moved on to our main course selections.

I opted for the Spicy Lumaconi Pasta, a tantalizing dish featuring a tomato sauce spiced with Calabrese chili peppers, cashew mozzarella, and almond parmesan. It was an explosion of flavors, perfectly balanced in its spiciness – another resounding 10/10.

Justin, on the other hand, went for the Chick'n & Waffle, and I couldn't resist taking a bite. The waffle was light and fluffy, and the "Chick'n" had that reminiscent fried chicken skin texture. Justin gave it a hearty thumbs-up.

We concluded our culinary journey with the Key Lime Cheesecake for dessert. Let me tell you, this "cheesecake" was a revelation. Justin and I couldn't help but inquire about the secret behind this vegan marvel, and our server kindly spilled the beans – it's made with oat milk and coconut milk. It was the perfect ending to our meal, and it deserves every bit of a 10/10 rating.

I must also give a shoutout to the fantastic service at Planta. Every member of the staff, from the welcoming hostess to our attentive server and the friendly manager who checked on us, added to the overall exceptional experience. The restaurant's ambiance exuded an upscale bohemian vibe that complemented the food perfectly.

In conclusion, Planta won over this hardcore carnivore's heart. From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering food and the inviting atmosphere, it's a must-visit. If someone like me can wholeheartedly recommend it, then you know it's worth your time. So, don't hesitate – make those reservations and embark on your own culinary adventure at Planta. You'll thank me later!
